The Annapurna Circuit is a great base for add-ons. Because it passes through Manang and ends near Tatopani and Ghorepani, it connects to several other famous treks. This page helps you choose the add-ons that fit your time, fitness and interests.
Tilicho Lake
Tilicho Lake, at about 4,919 m, is one of the highest large lakes in the world that trekkers can visit. The standard add-on takes three to four extra days from Manang, via Khangsar and a high base lodge. It is physically demanding and exposed to landslides. See our Tilicho Lake guides and the Annapurna Circuit and Tilicho Lake 16-day package.
Nar Phu Valley
Nar Phu adds about 8 to 10 walking days, but gives a remote, culture-rich valley and a second high pass. It works best as a warm-up before Thorong La. See our Nar Phu Valley guides.
Ice Lake
Ice Lake, about 4,600 m, is a day trip from Braga or Manang. It is a steep, popular acclimatisation hike with big views. It does not need extra permits beyond the standard Circuit ones, but it is a hard day and best done on a rest day only if you feel well.
Gangapurna Lake and Praken Gompa
These are easier rest-day options near Manang. Gangapurna Lake is a short walk from town. Praken Gompa is a monastery reached by a steep path toward the cliff, with a sense of calm. Both are good choices if you want a gentle day.
Poon Hill
At the end of the Circuit, you can continue from Tatopani to Ghorepani and Poon Hill, a sunrise viewpoint at about 3,210 m. It adds two to three days and gives a classic panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. See Poon Hill trek: a short option.
Muktinath and Upper Mustang
Muktinath is already on the Circuit. Upper Mustang, however, is a separate restricted area beyond Kagbeni. See our Upper Mustang guides if you plan a long journey that includes it.
Combining add-ons
- Nar Phu plus Circuit: about 20 days.
- Tilicho plus Circuit: about 18 to 20 days.
- Nar Phu plus Tilicho plus Circuit: about 22 to 24 days, only for experienced trekkers with flexible schedules.
Each add-on increases altitude and fatigue. Do not stack them unless you have the time to rest.
How much do add-ons cost in time?
- Ice Lake: one extra day if combined with Braga stay.
- Tilicho Lake: three to four days from Manang.
- Nar Phu: eight to ten days from Koto.
- Poon Hill: two to three days after Tatopani.
Add the days to your base itinerary of 12 to 18 days, plus a spare day for weather.
Fitness and acclimatisation benefits
Nar Phu and Tilicho are not just add-ons. Each gives extra high-altitude exposure before Thorong La. Many guides see the pass as easier after a few days above 4,000 m. Still, extra days at altitude also mean more cumulative fatigue, so plan rests.
Common questions
How many days does Tilicho add to the Circuit?
Usually three to four extra days from Manang, plus a spare day for weather.
Can I do Nar Phu and Tilicho in one trek?
Yes, but it is a long trek of 22 to 24 days. It suits experienced trekkers with a flexible schedule.
Is Ice Lake easy?
No. It is a steep climb to about 4,600 m. It is a good acclimatisation hike if you feel well, but not a casual walk.
