Lobuche East is reached by flying to Lukla and walking via Namche and Dingboche to Lobuche, with a base camp near the village.
Flight
Fly to Lukla in the morning. Weather can delay flights.
Trail
Walk to Namche, Tengboche and Dingboche, then Lobuche at about 4,910 m.
Base camp
Lobuche East base camp lies at about 5,000 m, with a high camp higher. See the camp guide.
Return
Descend and return to Lukla in three to four days.
From Lobuche to base camp
Lobuche village is at about 4,910 m. The base camp lies a short walk away and the high camp is higher up the ridge. You will typically spend one night at base camp, one at high camp and climb on the third morning. Keep your acclimatisation days earlier on the trail.
Return and flights
After the summit, descend to Lobuche and walk back through Dingboche and Namche to Lukla in three to four days. Flights depend on weather. Keep two spare days and avoid tight onward connections from Kathmandu.
Costs
Transport costs include flights, porters and sometimes a helicopter. Confirm what is included in your package.
A realistic timeline
Day one is the Lukla flight and a short walk, followed by Namche on day two, a rest day at Namche, then Tengboche, Dingboche, a rest day, Lobuche and base camp. The climb takes two to three days with a summit attempt, followed by a descent over three to four days. With reserve days the whole trip is about three weeks.
Avoiding common delays
The two big risks are a Lukla flight cancellation at either end and a poor weather window on the mountain. Plan buffer days, keep your international ticket flexible, and discuss the flight situation with your operator before departure.
Buffer
Keep spare days in Kathmandu.
Flying to Lukla
Most climbers fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, a short but weather-sensitive flight. Morning departures are common. If skies are cloudy, flights are delayed, so keep a spare day at both ends of the trip.
From Lobuche village to base camp
The base camp lies a few hours above Lobuche village, on a rocky shelf. Porters carry camp gear and food, and the team often sleeps at high camp before the summit push. Plan enough acclimatisation days before moving up.
