Annapurna Circuit lengths can look like a simple choice of days. In practice they are different kinds of trip. This page compares the three plans we most often discuss.
At a glance
- 9 days: the leanest version. One rest day, most of the lower valley by road, Jomsom flight.
- 10 days: adds half a day of easier walking on the way to Manang and a little more buffer.
- 18 days: walks nearly all the way, with extra rest days and optional side trips.
Walking versus jeep
The shorter plans use roads in the lower valley, which is now busy and dusty. The longer plan walks more of it where trails remain. See road and jeep sections.
Rest days
The 9-day and 10-day plans have one rest day, at Manang. The 18-day plan can add a second, plus side trips such as Ice Lake or Tilicho. See Ice Lake guides.
Risk and flexibility
A shorter plan has fewer spare days if the weather turns. A longer plan absorbs delays more easily and adapts better to the altitude.
Who suits what
- 9 days: fit, previously acclimatised, short on time.
- 10 days: most healthy trekkers wanting a compact trip.
- 18 days: first-timers, photographers, older trekkers and those wanting side trips.
The honest middle
Ten days is not a luxury, but it is not a squeeze either. It allows one softer day before the pass and keeps the trip within two working weeks. If you can add two more days, the Circuit becomes much more relaxed.
What the 18-day plan adds
- More walking in the lower valley.
- A second rest day or a side trip.
- Time for the Tilicho Lake loop.
- A built-in buffer before and after the pass.
Common questions
Which is best, 9, 10 or 18 days?
10 days for most healthy trekkers, 18 for the most comfortable trip.
Does the shorter trip cross the same pass?
Yes. The Thorong La is the same.
Which has less road?
The 18-day plan.
Trade-offs of a shorter plan
A shorter circuit uses jeeps for lower sections and spends more time high. That saves days but cuts acclimatisation. Choose it only if you are fit and have a spare day.
