A typical Api Himal base camp plan takes about 20 days or more from Kathmandu. It includes a long journey west by air and road, around twelve to fifteen days of walking, and spare days for weather. Details vary by route, so we agree the plan with you.
Journey west
Fly from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi or Nepalgunj in the south-west, then travel by road to the start of the trail. Roads are rough, and the journey can take a full day or more.
The walk in
The trail follows river valleys north through villages, forest and high pasture. Camps are simple, and days are four to seven hours.
Base camp
The base camp area sits below the Api and Saipal peaks. Most groups spend a day or two exploring and resting.
The return
Return by the same valley, and travel back by road and air.
Spare days
Allow several spare days. Weather, rivers and transport can all cause delays.
Daily rhythm
Expect early starts, long walking days and camp in meadows or villages. Rivers can be high in the afternoon, so crossings are made early.
Support
A cook crew, porters and a guide who knows the area are essential. Ask us about the team.
