Short viewpoint hikes near Kathmandu and Pokhara

3 min readUpdated 23 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

The easiest famous viewpoints in Nepal are close to the two main tourist hubs. From Kathmandu, Nagarkot and the Chisapani to Nagarkot hike give a day or a few days of views, and Kalinchowk is a 2 to 3 day snow trip. From Pokhara, Sarangkot is a morning outing and Poon Hill is a sunrise climb on a 4 to 5 day trek.

From Kathmandu

Nagarkot is a hill viewpoint reached by road and by hiking. A three-day Chisapani to Nagarkot hike appears in many operators' lists. Kalinchowk is a 2 or 3 day trip. See the Kalinchowk guides and the Helambu trek guides.

From Pokhara

Sarangkot is the classic sunrise viewpoint above Pokhara and looks across at the Annapurna range. Poon Hill takes longer. See the Poon Hill 4 to 5 day itinerary and the treks from Pokhara guides.

Best time

Autumn and spring give the clearest mornings. Winter is cold but can be very clear, and Kalinchowk is popular for snow.

Fitness

All of these suit first-time trekkers, but Kalinchowk and Poon Hill are above 3,000 m, so go slowly and dress warmly.
