Everest Base Camp for Indian holidays: Diwali, Dussehra and summer break

5 min readUpdated 24 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

Most Indian holiday windows fall in good trekking months, but they are also the busiest. Dussehra and Diwali land in the October to November season, summer break overlaps May and June, and June is monsoon. Check the festival dates for your year and book flights and rooms early.

Dussehra

Dussehra falls in late September or October. It brings you to the start of the autumn season, when skies are clearing after the monsoon. Early in the window some lower sections can still be wet. See the best time to trek.

Diwali

Diwali falls in October or November depending on the year. It sits in the best weather window, so demand for flights, hotels and rooms is high. November nights at height are cold, so carry a warm sleeping bag. See October and November.

Summer break

May works well for many families: warm days and long hours of light, with more cloud and haze in the afternoons. June is the monsoon, with rain and frequent flight disruption. See May and the monsoon.

Book early, keep a spare day

Holiday weeks fill Lukla flights and teahouse rooms. Confirm dates well ahead, and keep a spare day before your return to India because delayed flights are common. See buffer days.

Documents for Indian citizens

Indian citizens do not need a Nepal visa. Carry a valid photo ID that is accepted for entry, and read the document guide.

Choosing a holiday window

Indian school and office holidays cluster in three windows: Dussehra and Diwali in autumn, the winter break and the summer vacation in May and June. Of these, autumn offers the best weather and the busiest trail. May is warm but hazier and ends as the monsoon approaches. Plan around the weather first and the holiday second.

Travelling as a family or group

Many Indian trekkers go in groups of friends or extended families. Larger groups need earlier bookings and more spare days, because one person falling ill can affect everyone. Agree on a pace that suits the slowest walker, and plan a longer route if children or older relatives are joining.

Price and group size

Our 14-day package is priced at ₹85,000 per person for Indian travellers. We confirm the price and availability for your holiday dates. See the rupee price.
