Can I get altitude sickness on this trek?
Yes, though the risk is lower than on higher treks. Walk slowly, drink water, rest in Namche and tell your guide about symptoms.
What if I feel unwell?
Tell your guide at once. Mild symptoms may improve with rest, but worsening symptoms mean you should descend.
Is a helicopter evacuation possible?
Yes in many places, depending on weather, and it needs suitable insurance. Check your policy and the operator's rescue plan.
How cold does it get?
Nights at Namche, Khumjung and Tengboche can fall below freezing in autumn and winter. Warm layers and a good sleeping bag are important.
Is the water safe?
Use boiled, filtered or treated water rather than tap water. Many lodges sell boiled water.
Who should see a doctor first?
Anyone with heart, lung or blood pressure conditions, pregnant travellers, older trekkers and parents bringing young children should talk to a doctor before booking.
Is there mobile signal?
Signal and wifi are available in some villages but patchy. Do not rely on constant contact.
