Best time to visit Ghandruk

4 min readUpdated 24 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

The best months for Ghandruk are March to May and October to November. Winter is cool but clear, and the monsoon is wet.

A low village with a long season

At 1,940 m Ghandruk escapes the extreme cold of the high Himalaya, so it is open and walkable much of the year. The question is less when you can go than what you want to see. The mountains are the main attraction, and they need clear skies.

Spring: March to May

Rhododendron and other flowers bloom along the trail, especially from late March, and the village terraces are green. Days are warm and the mornings often give a clear sunrise. By May the haze builds, so mountain views become softer by midday.

Autumn: October and November

The most reliable season for clear skies and sharp views. It is also the busiest, so book lodges in advance. The festival season of Dashain and Tihar falls around this time and gives the village a colourful, lively mood.

Winter: December to February

Cold nights, often with frost, but crisp air and beautiful mornings. Snow is uncommon at the village itself, though it may lie on the higher trail to Tadapani. Fewer people are walking, so it is peaceful.

Monsoon: June to September

Green terraces, loud streams and leeches on the lower trail. Mountain views are rare, and landslides can interrupt the road. It is possible to visit, but it is not the best time for views.

Festival timing

Dashain and Tihar in autumn bring colourful celebrations and visits from family members. The Gurung New Year, Tamu Lhosar, falls in late December. If you visit during these times, expect a lively mood and ask before taking photographs.

Photography notes

Early morning light is best for photographing the village and peaks. Evenings give warm tones on the stone houses.

How to choose

For views and comfort choose late October to early December or late February to April. For lower prices and quiet choose January. Read permits and access for the practical side.
