How do I get to the start of the trek?
Most trekkers fly from Kathmandu to Lukla in about 30 minutes. In busy seasons many flights operate from Ramechhap (Manthali), which adds an early road transfer. Your operator will explain the arrangement.
How heavy can my bag be?
Domestic flights have strict weight limits for checked and hand luggage. Pack lightly and keep valuables and essentials in your hand luggage. Porters carry your main bag along the trail.
Where do I leave extra luggage?
Hotels and operators in Kathmandu usually store spare bags for free or for a small fee. Take only what you need for the mountain.
How much cash should I take?
Carry enough Nepali rupees for meals, showers, charging, snacks and tips beyond what your package covers, plus an emergency reserve. ATMs are in Namche and Lukla only and may be unreliable.
Is there mobile signal and wifi?
Signal exists in places, mainly near villages, and wifi is sold by card. Speeds are slow, especially at Gokyo, so do not plan to work online.
Can I charge devices?
Yes, for a fee in most lodges. Bring a power bank and keep batteries warm in your sleeping bag at night.
How should I tip?
Tipping is customary. A common practice is to pool a tip for the guide and porters at the end of the trek, scaled to group size and service. Your operator can suggest typical ranges.
What should I do after the trek?
Rest in Kathmandu with a hot shower and a good meal. Allow at least one spare day before an international flight, because Lukla flights are weather-dependent.
What happens if my bag is lost on the flight?
Keep essentials in your hand luggage. If a bag is delayed, your operator can arrange rental gear in Kathmandu or Namche. Report the loss to the airline immediately.
Can I trek to Gokyo independently?
It is possible, but the high altitude and weather risks make a guide strongly advisable. Independent trekkers should have strong experience, good insurance and flexible schedules.
How do I book Lukla flights?
Operators normally book flights for you. If booking independently, use reputable agents and book early in the season. Flights depend on weather and can be rescheduled at short notice.
