Best time for Lingtren views and climbing

3 min readUpdated 23 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

The best time to see Lingtren is October to November, when the air is clear, or April to May, when it is warmer. Early mornings are better than afternoons all year. Monsoon cloud hides the ridge, and winter is very cold at Gorak Shep.

Autumn

Clear, dry weather and good light. Nights at Gorak Shep are well below freezing.

Spring

Warmer days and longer light, though afternoon cloud is common.

Winter

Excellent views on still days, but extreme cold and strong wind. Some lodges at the top close.

Monsoon

Cloud, rain and delayed flights. The mountains are mostly hidden.

Time of day

Start at sunrise. By late morning, cloud often fills the valley. See the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp.

Temperatures

At Gorak Shep, autumn nights are often minus 10 degrees Celsius or lower. Days in the sun are comfortable, though the wind is sharp. Bring warm layers and a down jacket.

Crowds

Autumn and spring are busy on the main trail. Early starts keep you ahead of groups at Kala Patthar.

Common questions

Are views clearer in December? Often, but it is very cold. Is spring too hazy? Sometimes in the afternoon. Can I see Lingtren in the monsoon? Rarely.
