The best places to see Lingtren are Gorak Shep and Kala Patthar. On the way up the valley you get glimpses from Lobuche too. It stands to the north-west of the trail, close to Pumori, and it looks best in the early morning light.
From Lobuche
The village sits in a high valley, and the ridge above it holds several peaks. Lingtren is part of this wall, though you need a guide to name each one.
From Gorak Shep
Gorak Shep is a small settlement on a dry lake bed. Pumori rises close above it. Lingtren is the neighbour to its side, and you can see its upper slopes and ridge.
From Kala Patthar
The viewpoint above Gorak Shep shows the full set of peaks, including Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and Lingtren. See where to see Mount Everest.
Telling it from Pumori
Pumori is a clean pyramid. Lingtren is a broader ridge peak that sits next to it. If you are unsure, ask your guide to point from a map.
Photography
Early morning gives soft light and little haze. Use a short telephoto lens to compress the skyline. Keep your phone warm to protect the battery.
Along the way
The walk from Lobuche to Gorak Shep passes the Khumbu Glacier moraine. See the 14-day itinerary.
Common questions
Can I see Lingtren from Everest Base Camp? The view is limited, because you are below the icefall. Do I need a special lens? A normal phone is enough, but a zoom helps. Which day is best? The day you climb Kala Patthar, if the weather is clear.
Tips for the day
Start early, dress warmly, bring a head torch for the pre-dawn walk and keep your phone battery warm. Eat a good breakfast and drink often.
If you are tired
Do not push on if you feel unwell at altitude. Descend, rest and try again if time allows. See altitude sickness on the Everest trek.
