Lobuche East climb cost: what influences the price

2 min read

A Lobuche East programme combines a trek with a technical climb, so it usually costs more than a standard trek. We do not publish a fixed price here, because the total depends on your choices.

Main cost items

  • Permits and fees: climbing permit, park entry and TIMS. The park and TIMS figures supplied to us appear on our permit page, and we confirm the climbing permit fee for your dates.
  • Flights: Kathmandu to Lukla and back.
  • Guides and staff: a climbing guide, support staff, porters and kitchen team.
  • Lodging and meals: teahouses on the approach and tents at camp.
  • Equipment: shared group gear, with personal items usually extra.

What changes the price

The number of days, group size, ratio of guides to climbers, the use of a high camp, and the season all affect the total. A private departure costs more than joining a group.

Additional costs

Insurance, personal gear rental or purchase, visa fees, tips and extra nights due to weather are usually not included.

Be wary of very low offers

Low prices may mean fewer guides, no spare days or weaker safety plans. Compare what is covered, not only the headline figure.

Questions to ask

  • How many guides per climber?
  • Which permits and fees are included?
  • How many spare days are planned?
  • What is the evacuation arrangement?

Send your dates and we will prepare a clear quote.

What drives the price

Group size, guide ratio, staff quality, equipment, food, insurance and acclimatisation days all affect cost. A higher price may reflect better support and safety margins.

Budget for extras

Allow for flights, visas, personal gear, tips, drinks, charging fees and extra nights in Kathmandu or Lukla. A contingency fund reduces stress.

Ask the right questions

Request a written breakdown of inclusions and exclusions, and confirm the permit type and staff insurance before paying.

Understanding fixed costs

Permits, flights, hotels and staff wages are largely fixed. Variable costs include group size, equipment, extra days and rentals. Compare quotes line by line to understand where differences come from.

Extra costs to anticipate

Visas, insurance, gear, tips, drinks, showers, charging, wifi and extra nights add up. Keep a contingency fund and carry cash in rupees for the trail.

Paying fairly

Fair prices support fair wages for staff and good safety standards. Be wary of quotes that seem too good to be true, and choose an operator you trust.
