Manaslu Circuit cost: what affects the price

3 min read

The Manaslu Circuit is priced above many teahouse treks because of its restricted status, remote logistics and guide requirement. We do not publish one fixed figure, since your choices change the total.

Permits

The restricted-area permit is charged by week, with a daily surcharge beyond the first week. Autumn weeks cost more than weeks from December to August, according to the schedule supplied to us. Add the conservation area fee, TIMS, and the Tsum Valley fee if you choose to include it. Rates can change, so confirm them before booking.

Transport

The drive to the trailhead and from the end of the trek takes most of a day on each side. A private vehicle costs more than public transport, and the choice also affects comfort and flexibility.

Group size

Guides, vehicles and porters are shared among the group, so larger groups pay less per head. Solo trekkers pay more.

Duration

Longer trips cost more in permits, food and lodging. Weather buffer days affect the total as well.

Services

Hiring a porter in addition to the guide, or upgrading rooms where available, adds to the cost.

What to check in a quote

  • Whether permits, TIMS and entry fees are included.
  • How many days of the restricted permit are assumed.
  • Whether transport at both ends is private or shared.
  • What the policy is for delays and extra nights.

Send your dates and group size and we will prepare a clear quote.

Why it costs more than some treks

Manaslu has high permit fees, remote logistics and a mandatory guide, and supplies must be carried a long way. The lodges are simpler but still need staff and food. The long road journeys at both ends add vehicle and fuel costs. All of this is reflected in a price that is often higher than for popular treks with developed infrastructure.

Where you can adjust

You can reduce the cost by joining a group, travelling in a shoulder season or choosing a simpler version without the Tsum Valley extension. On the other hand, adding extra days for safety and comfort increases the cost but improves the experience. Discuss the trade-offs with your operator and choose what matters to you.

Making sure you compare like with like

Ask each operator for a detailed itinerary and list of inclusions and exclusions. Check how many nights are in each place, what transport is included, and whether meals in Kathmandu or at the trailhead are covered. Compare permit costs and ask how they are calculated.

A short list of questions

  • Is there an additional charge if the pass is closed and we need extra days?
  • What is the group size and guide-to-trekker ratio?
  • What are the payment and cancellation terms?

Why Manaslu is priced above many treks

Restricted-area permits, the guide requirement, the long road access and the remote logistics all raise costs. Lodges are limited, so supplies are carried long distances. Quality operators pay staff fairly and carry rescue equipment. These factors explain price differences.

What to check before paying

Confirm permit fees, road transport, staff insurance and the number of rest days. Ask about group size, guide qualifications and the plan for bad weather. Compare itineraries rather than just prices.
