Pisang Peak permits and rules

2 min read

Pisang Peak is a trekking peak, so a climbing permit is needed in addition to the permits for the Annapurna Conservation Area. Rules and fees can change, so confirm the current list with your operator before you pay. This page explains what is usually required and who arranges it.

What is usually required

  • A climbing permit for a trekking peak, issued through the national mountaineering authority and arranged by a licensed agency.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area entry, checked at the entry points.
  • Trekking registration through a licensed agency, including the TIMS card where it applies.
  • A valid passport and passport-size photographs.

Who arranges them

If you book through a licensed operator, the operator buys the permits and registers you. It avoids queues in Kathmandu and mistakes in the paperwork. Ask for a list of exactly which permits are included in your quote.

Guide and staff rules

Climbing parties normally need an experienced guide, and the climbing permit is linked to a registered agency. Current rules in Nepal have moved toward requiring a licensed guide on many routes, so plan to climb with one. Insurance for staff and rescue is part of responsible operation.

Climbing without a permit

Climbing a permit peak without the right permit is illegal. It also removes the safeguards of rescue arrangements and agency support, so never do it.

Fees

Fees for the climbing permit vary by season and can be revised by the authorities. We do not list fixed amounts because outdated figures cause confusion. Ask your operator for a written breakdown and check what is included in your price.

What to carry

Keep your permits in a waterproof pouch with copies and phone photos. Carry your passport, since checkposts and registration may need it. Respect the conservation area by carrying out your rubbish and following your guide's advice.
