A Tilicho Peak expedition usually takes about 21 to 28 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. The extra length compared with lower peaks comes from the need for slow acclimatisation, high camps and spare days for weather. Operators plan the details around conditions and the team, so the outline below is a typical shape to compare plans, not a fixed script.
Days 1 and 2: Kathmandu
You arrive, meet your guide, check gear and collect permits. Expedition-style climbs need a careful gear check, so allow time and a spare day.
Days 3 to 8: Besisahar to Manang
You drive to Besisahar and follow the Marsyangdi valley through Chame and Pisang to Manang, at about 3,540 m, over about five or six days. This stretch builds fitness and acclimatisation. Manang is a good place for a rest day, with short walks to viewpoints and a chance for your guide to assess everyone.
Days 9 to 11: Tilicho Base Camp and the lake
From Manang the trail climbs to Khangsar and on to Tilicho Base Camp at about 4,100 m, a lodge stop below the lake. A visit to Tilicho Lake at about 4,900 m is an excellent acclimatisation walk, and it is also one of the most dramatic places on the trip. Return to sleep low before moving up.
Days 12 to 18: peak base camp and high camps
The expedition leaves the lodges and establishes a base camp and then one or more higher camps on glacial terrain. Teams carry loads between camps, rest and practise skills. Heights and the number of camps depend on route and conditions. Expect cold, simple meals and long rest periods between efforts.
Days 19 to 21: summit window
Summit day starts in the dark and is long, with steep snow and ice, fixed ropes and strong cold. Teams keep several spare days in this period, because weather windows are narrow at this height. After the summit you return to a lower camp and descend.
Days 22 to 28: return
You descend to Manang and either walk out the way you came or cross Thorong La to Muktinath and fly or drive back. Allow spare days at the end for pass weather and flights.
