Tilicho Peak permits and rules

2 min read

A climb of Tilicho Peak involves national climbing permits and the permits for the Annapurna Conservation Area. Because the peak is high and its classification and fees can differ from those of lower trekking peaks, you should confirm the exact permit category, fees and requirements with a licensed operator in writing. Rules change, so do not rely on old figures from the internet.

What is usually required

  • A climbing permit for the peak, issued through the national mountaineering authority and arranged by a licensed agency.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area entry, checked at entry points.
  • Trekking registration through a licensed agency, including the TIMS card where it applies.
  • A valid passport and passport-size photographs.

Who arranges them

A licensed operator buys the permits and registers the team. For a high peak there may be additional requirements, such as a liaison officer or specific insurance, so ask your operator what applies to your plan.

Staff and safety

Expect a team with experienced climbing guides, porters and kitchen staff. Insurance for staff, rescue arrangements and communication equipment are important. Ask for details, and check that the plan includes a rescue arrangement.

Climbing without a permit

Climbing a permit peak without the right permit is illegal. It also removes support and rescue safeguards, so never attempt it.

Fees

Fees are set by the authorities, can change and differ by season. We do not list fixed amounts, because outdated figures cause confusion. Ask your operator for a written breakdown.
