Small deposit in India. Balance in Nepal.
Cross a high pass instead of retracing your steps. This 14-day Gokyo and Renjo La trek from Kathmandu flies you to Lukla, climbs to Namche Bazaar, then follows the Dudh Kosi up to the turquoise Gokyo Lakes. From Gokyo Ri (5,357m), Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu fill the horizon, with the vast Ngozumpa Glacier below.
Then comes the best part. Instead of walking back down the same valley, you cross Renjo La (5,360m) at dawn and drop into the quiet Bhote Koshi valley. You follow an old Tibetan trade route to Thame, a village known for its monastery and its climbing Sherpas, and return to Namche and Lukla. The loop is quieter than the Everest Base Camp trail, with two nights at Gokyo and short days through Dole and Machhermo for gradual acclimatization.
Before you pay a deposit for your Nepal trek, read our booking terms and conditions. They explain what your trek price covers, which costs are extra, and what happens if flights are delayed or your plans change.
These are the sections trekkers check most often:

Our full Everest Base Camp packing checklist covers every item with practical advice. You can also download the packing list as a PDF to print or keep on your phone.
If something is missing when you reach Kathmandu, you can buy or rent almost any trekking gear there at reasonable prices. Buy your hiking boots before you travel, though, and break them in, because a good fit matters more than anything else you carry.
A few practical points before you pack:
A 14-day loop that goes up to the Gokyo Lakes, crosses the Renjo La pass (5,360m) and returns through the quiet Thame valley to Namche. You do not repeat the same trail on the way down.
Renjo La is a pass with a famous viewpoint of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu, and the Thame side is traditional Sherpa country with few trekkers.
The Gokyo Lakes trek returns by the same valley. This one adds a pass crossing, a descent through Maruleng and Thame, and a harder day.
Namche Days 3 and 4, Dole Day 5, Machermo Day 6, Gokyo Day 7, Gokyo rest and optional Gokyo Ri on Day 8, Renjo La to Maruleng Day 9, Thame Day 10, Namche Day 11, Lukla Day 12.
About 6 to 8 hours of walking. You reach the pass in around 3 hours from Gokyo on a steep path, then descend to Maruleng at about 4,250m. It can be snowy, and the guide decides on the morning.
In good conditions it is a normal trekking pass with no technical climbing. Snow or ice may need microspikes. Your guide checks weather and snow before setting out.
You retrace the Gokyo valley back to Namche, and we adjust the plan. Extra days cost INR 6,000 each (stay and three meals).
Yes, on Day 8. It helps acclimatisation and gives the best views. Do it before the pass day.
A rest day in Namche, short days to Dole and Machermo, and a second rest day at Gokyo. Sleeping altitude rises slowly to 4,800m.
Good fitness for 5 to 8 hour days with a few hard sections. Train for three months with weighted hikes, and practise downhill.
Your page suggests late monsoon flowers at Nagpala, but the standard trekking windows are March to May and September to December, when passes are clearest.
Teahouses with twin rooms and shared bathrooms, plus a hotel night in Lukla and two in Kathmandu (Hotel The Address). Rooms above Namche are unheated.
Kathmandu hotel with breakfast, Lukla flights, permits and TIMS, a licensed guide, porters, taxes and a farewell dinner. Three meals a day are included on 11 of the 14 days.
USD 300 to 400 (INR 25,000 to 40,000) for water, showers, charging, Wi-Fi and tips. Bottled water is INR 100 to 300.
We rebook you on the next flight. A chartered helicopter may be possible at USD 600 or more, with a USD 150 refund of your flight fare. Extra hotel nights and meals are your cost.
Yes, sleeping bag and down jacket at about INR 100 per item per day.
Insurance is mandatory and we ask for proof before you arrive. Check the altitude clause first, because many standard policies stop at 4,000m and this route goes to 5,545m (our terms require 6,000m). The insurance section of our terms has the details.
The guide decides whether you walk down or fly, then our Kathmandu office books the helicopter and talks to your insurer. A flight can cost USD 5,000 or more. Ask the hospital for a written report for your claim.
Himalayan Wonders Adventure Pvt. Ltd. runs the trip and employs your guide, porters and drivers. Our India office only handles booking. Details are on the team page.
A deposit secures your place and the rest is due when you reach our Kathmandu office. Indian guests send the deposit by bank transfer or UPI, and guests abroad may use a transfer or an online card with a 4.5% fee. Pay the balance in INR, USD, EUR, GBP or another major currency, at the NPR conversion rate on the date of payment (local conversion charges apply). Cash saves you the 13% charged on cards in Nepal.
For the first 30 days half of it can be refunded. After that it is not refundable, but it remains valid for a year on any trek or climb we run. A no-show without contact forfeits it.
Very. You can move your departure as often as you like at no charge if you give 6 weeks' notice. With 2 to 6 weeks' notice a fee of INR 5,000 (Indian guests) or USD 100 (other guests) applies, and changes are not possible with less than 14 days' notice. If the new date costs more, you pay the difference.
No. Our staff and bookings are paid for the whole schedule, so unused days are not refunded. We will help you get home, and any extra hotel, meals or flights are yours to pay. Your insurer may cover some of it.
There is no single supplement. Rooms are shared by gender, and couples, families and friends share together. In Kathmandu you share a twin room, or get a single room at no charge if no one of your gender is booked on your dates. On the trek, rooms are twin-sharing, and at busy high stops such as Gokyo they can be shared by up to four guests. If you are the only person booked on a fixed departure, or you are not joining a group, a Solo Support Fee of INR 1,500 per trekking day covers a dedicated porter. If the fee is not paid and you are the only person booked on your dates, there is no separate licensed trek guide, and a porter-cum-guide leads the trek. We tell you at booking, or as soon as it arises.
Tell us your group, your dates and your budget. We will shape this trek around you.
