How many days does the Everest View trek take?

2 min read

The Everest View trek usually takes 6 to 9 days from Kathmandu back to Kathmandu, and 7 days is the most common package. Because the highest point is only around 3,900 m, the schedule can be shorter than the Everest Base Camp trek, but a rest day in Namche remains important. Flights add uncertainty, so a spare day is wise.

What each length usually means

A six day plan is the practical minimum. It flies to Lukla, walks to Namche, visits the Everest View Hotel and Khumjung in one long day, goes to Tengboche and returns, with very little margin. A seven day plan, the most common, has a proper Namche acclimatisation day. An eight or nine day plan adds a second night at Namche or Tengboche, a visit to Thame or Khumbu monasteries and a spare day for flights.

How the days are spent

  • One day for the flight and a short walk to Phakding.
  • One day to climb to Namche Bazaar.
  • One day for the viewpoint, Khumjung and acclimatisation.
  • One day to Tengboche and one back to Namche.
  • Two days to return to Lukla and Kathmandu.

Where extra days help most

A second night at Namche or Khumjung gives a slower pace, a chance to walk to Khunde or the Hillary hospital and more time at the viewpoint in clear weather. A spare day at the end is the cheapest way to avoid missing your international flight if Lukla is closed.

If you only have a week

Choose a seven day plan and keep one extra day in your schedule, so that a flight delay does not ruin the trip. Do not book a flight home on the same day you plan to return to Kathmandu.

If you can stay longer

With 12 to 14 days, you can continue to Everest Base Camp. If you have 14 to 16 days, a Gokyo Lakes trek gives more dramatic scenery. An experienced operator can extend the Everest View route into one of these later if you enjoy it.
