A common plan lasts about nine days from Kathmandu. After a long drive to the trailhead, you walk for six or seven days through villages and forest to a viewpoint with views of the Ganesh Himal, and return by road. Routes vary, so we agree the details with you.
Getting started
Drive from Kathmandu to the trailhead, which takes most of a day on rough roads. The first night is usually in a village lodge or homestay.
Walking days
Days are four to six hours, with steady climbs through terraces and forest. The trails are earthen and sometimes steep.
High point
The highest camp is usually around 3,000 to 3,800 m, depending on the route. From there you can look across to the snow peaks.
Return
Return by a different trail where possible, and drive back to Kathmandu.
Spare days
Keep one spare day, because the roads can be slow in wet weather.
Walking times
Walking days are four to six hours, and the roads at the start and end can be slow. A sensible plan adds a spare day.
Customising
The route can be adjusted to your days. Tell us how long you have, and we will suggest a plan.
