The Ganesh Himal and Ruby Valley treks are quiet routes in the hills north-west of Kathmandu, between the Langtang and Manaslu regions. They offer mountain views, Tamang and Gurung villages and a rural feel. Most take seven to twelve days and stay below about 4,000 m.
Where they are
Ganesh Himal is a range of snow peaks with the highest summit at about 7,400 m, north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border. Ruby Valley lies to its west and south, reached through the Dhading and Gorkha districts.
What they offer
Both areas have terraced hills, forests, small monasteries and few trekkers. Accommodation is mainly in homestays and simple lodges.
Names and variations

Who they suit
Trekkers who want quiet trails, culture and moderate altitude, and who are happy with simple conditions.
How they compare
They are quieter and less developed than Langtang or Annapurna, and less demanding than Manaslu. Facilities are simpler.
