The Great Himalaya Trail is usually described in sections: Kanchenjunga, Makalu and Everest, Rolwaling and Langtang, Manaslu and Annapurna, Dolpo and Humla. Each section takes about two to four weeks. The far east and far west are the most remote.
East
Kanchenjunga and the Makalu Barun area, long remote trekking with few lodges.
Everest region
Linking Makalu, Hunku, Mera, Everest and Rolwaling by high passes. Some of the hardest sections in the whole route.
Central
Rolwaling, Langtang, Manaslu and Annapurna, with more lodges and easier supply.
West
Dhaulagiri, Dolpo, Rara, Limi and Humla. These are remote regions with expedition-style trekking.
Choosing a section
Choose by season, fitness and interest. We can combine sections to match your time.
Difficulty by section
The east and the high Everest passes are the hardest. Central sections are easier, with more lodges. The west is remote but gentler in altitude.
Linking sections
You can link sections year by year. Ask us how to plan a multi-year journey.
