Lobuche peak permits: climbing permit, TIMS and park entry

3 min read

Lobuche East is classed as a trekking peak, so the climbing permit is issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association and arranged through a registered trekking agency. Lobuche West is a different, expedition-class peak with a different permit system.

Climbing permit

The fee depends on the season and the authorities' current schedule. We have not been supplied with a confirmed official figure, so we do not quote one here. Ask us for the current amount for your dates.

National park entry

The route lies in Sagarmatha National Park. The entry fee supplied to us is NPR 3,000 for foreign nationals and NPR 1,500 for SAARC nationals, per entry. Children below ten are free.

TIMS and guide

The Everest region trekking routes, including Everest Base Camp, Gokyo, Cho La and Three Passes, are on the list where a licensed guide and an agency-issued TIMS card are required. Lobuche is not named separately, but the approach follows those trails, and the climb is organised through an agency with a guide. TIMS costs NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals and NPR 2,000 for others. We confirm what applies to your plan.

Local fees

A local municipality fee may apply in the Khumbu. Ask us how it affects the standard route.

What to prepare

  • Passport scan and photos.
  • Insurance for climbing to above six thousand metres, with evacuation.
  • Medical and experience information.

Fees and rules can change, so confirm them before booking.

How permits support safety

Permits help authorities track climbers, support rescue systems and manage use of the mountain. They also fund conservation and local services. Handling them correctly is part of responsible climbing.

What to provide

Expect to supply passport copies, photographs, insurance details and emergency contacts to your operator well before departure. Late submissions can delay the permit and your trip.

Following local rules

Respect the national park rules, avoid damaging vegetation, carry rubbish out and treat local culture with courtesy. Your operator can explain current regulations, which can change.

What counts as a trekking peak

Lobuche East is classified as a trekking peak and requires a climbing permit from the national authority. Lobuche West is a separate summit with different rules. Operators arrange the permit, and the cost depends on the season. Confirm which peak you are booking.

Staff and safety rules

Climbing parties are usually accompanied by licensed guides and support staff. Insurance and equipment standards apply, and your operator should explain them. Ask about guide experience and emergency plans.

Environmental responsibilities

Carry out all waste, use toilet facilities provided and avoid disturbing wildlife. Follow instructions from park staff and respect local traditions. Responsible behaviour protects the mountains for others.
