Season and Weather

Best time to climb Yala Peak

2 min read

The best seasons for Yala Peak are spring, from April to May, and autumn, from October to November. These are the windows when skies are clearest, the weather is most stable and the summit ridge is most likely to be safe. March and early December are possible, but they are colder and more variable.

Autumn: October and November

October is the favourite for climbers. The air is clear, the temperatures are bearable in the day and Langtang valley views are at their best after the monsoon. November is colder and quieter, with sharp light and very cold nights at camp. Snow can fall on summit day, so a spare day is useful.

Spring: April and May

Spring brings warmer days, flowering rhododendrons in the lower forest and often more cloud in the afternoons. Snow conditions on the summit ridge can be soft later in the season. Early spring can still be very cold and snowy.

Winter and monsoon

Winter, from December to February, is very cold, with strong wind and a higher chance of snow, and some lodges close. Summit days are possible only in good weather windows. The monsoon, from June to early September, brings rain, leeches and cloud, and it is not suitable for Yala.

How to choose

  • Choose October if you want the most reliable weather and do not mind more people.
  • Choose April or May for warmer days and green valleys.
  • Choose November for quiet trails, with warmer gear for the cold nights.

Plan a spare day

Even in a good season, wind or fresh snow can delay an attempt. A spare summit day gives you a second chance, and many successful climbs happen on the second attempt. Ask your operator how many weather days are built into the plan.
