Yala Peak: mobile signal, Wi-Fi and charging on the trail

4 min readUpdated 24 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

Langtang has patchy mobile coverage. Kyanjin Gompa has Wi-Fi and charging in lodges, while base camp has none.

Signal

Syabrubesi has good coverage. The valley has patches and Kyanjin sometimes has a signal.

Wi-Fi

Lodges in Kyanjin sell Wi-Fi. Speeds are slow.

Charging

Solar charging is available for a fee. Bring a power bank.

Base camp

No signal. Guides carry radios.

Using Syabrubesi and Kyanjin

Syabrubesi and the lower valley have reasonable signal, and Kyanjin Gompa has Wi-Fi in some lodges. Send messages there before heading up. After Kyanjin, expect no signal, so tell family your schedule.

Power planning

Langtang lodges charge for devices. A 10,000 mAh power bank is enough for a short climb. Keep it warm. Carry spare batteries for your head torch, since summit day starts before dawn.

Emergency contact

Give family the number of your operator and the lodge at Kyanjin. In an emergency, these contacts can reach you faster than a phone call to you. Carry a paper copy of the same numbers.

Using Langtang's lodges

Kyanjin Gompa has several lodges with charging points and, in some, Wi-Fi sold by the hour. Evenings are busy, so charge devices earlier in the afternoon or ask for a slot. Remember that sockets can be shared by many guests, and extension leads are not always safe, so keep an eye on your devices.

Keeping it light

A short trip needs only a modest power plan: a 10,000 mAh power bank, a short cable and a spare set of head torch batteries. Switch off background apps and use airplane mode to save charge. Put electronics inside a dry bag in case of rain or snow.

Preparation

Share your plan with family. See the gear list.

Using Kyanjin as a hub

Kyanjin Gompa has the best chance of signal and charging in the upper valley. Send messages there before the summit push.

Packing a solar option

A small solar panel keeps a power bank topped up on sunny days. Cold nights reduce battery life, so keep spares warm.

Coverage in Langtang

Signal is available in Syabrubesi and in parts of Langtang village and Kyanjin. It disappears quickly above the last villages. Wi-Fi in lodges is slow and sold by the hour.

Power for the climb

Bring a power bank and keep batteries warm. Charging costs extra in lodges. A small solar panel helps on clear days.
