Yala Peak month by month: weather, crowds and conditions

4 min readUpdated 24 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

Yala Peak is climbed in April to May and October to November. Winter is cold and snowy, and the monsoon brings rain and landslides to the approach.

December to February

Cold, with deep snow. Not recommended.

March

Cold, improving late in the month.

April and May

The main spring window with stable weather.

June to September

Monsoon rain and landslides. Not recommended.

Temperature and daylight

At Kyanjin Gompa, night temperatures are around minus 5 in October and about zero in May. At the high camp they drop to minus 10 or lower. Daylight is shorter in November, so teams start early. Warm layers and insulated boots are necessary.

Choosing the best week

Many teams climb in late April to mid May and mid October to early November, when weather is stable. Avoid very early spring and late November, when snow and cold are greater. Check the forecast before moving to high camp.

Monsoon and landslides

From June to September, rain and landslides make the road and the lower valley unreliable. The upper valley is wet and cloudy. Few climbs are attempted then. Winter is cold and snowy, with limited lodges.

What each stage feels like

Between Syabrubesi and Lama Hotel the valley is warm and green, especially in spring. At Langtang village mornings are frosty, and at Kyanjin Gompa the nights are cold and the sky is brilliant. Base camp is a cold, bright place with wind in the afternoon. The temperature range between the valley floor and the high camp can be 25 degrees.

After heavy snow

A significant snowfall can delay the climb by a day or two, since the route needs time to settle. Teams carry spare days for this reason. If you see fresh snow on arrival at Kyanjin, ask your guide how it affects the plan.

October and November

The prime autumn window with clear skies. See the best time guide.

Snow conditions

Spring often has deeper snow lower down, autumn is drier. Your guide checks the route before the summit day.

Months that work best

Mid October to mid November and April to mid May are the main windows. Winter is very cold and snowy, and the monsoon brings cloud and landslides to the lower road.

What each season offers

Autumn brings clear skies and firm snow. Spring brings warmer days and flowers in the valley, with afternoon cloud. Both are good for a first peak.
