October and early November are the most reliable months for the Annapurna Circuit, followed by March to May. Winter makes Thorong La risky and the monsoon makes the lower valley wet, though the north side stays relatively dry.
December to February
Cold and snowy at height. Thorong La can be closed by heavy snow and wind, and some high lodges shut for the season. Only well-equipped, experienced trekkers should attempt the full circuit in these months. The lower sections are clear and quiet, and the Manang valley offers crisp mornings if you are willing to turn back before the pass.
March and April
Spring brings rhododendrons on the lower trail and rising temperatures. Snow can remain on the pass in March, so early starts and flexibility help. April is busy, with lodges full on popular nights and long days of good visibility.
May and June
May is warm and hazy, with clear mornings and afternoon cloud. By June the monsoon begins on the southern side, but Manang and the upper valley receive far less rain. Wet, leech-prone trails below Chame are the main problem, together with landslides on the road.
July to September
The lowest season. Landslides can close roads and paths, and the lower valley is wet. The upper circuit is drier, but cloud limits views. Few trekkers go, so lodges are quiet. By late September the rain eases and the landscape is lush.
Weather numbers to expect
In October daytime temperatures at Manang are around 10 to 15 degrees, with nights near zero. At Thorong Phedi nights fall to minus 5 or colder, and wind on the pass can make it feel far colder. In April it is a few degrees warmer, but afternoon cloud and wind rise. Plan layers for a range of 25 degrees in a single day.
Choosing around the pass
If you can, schedule Thorong La for a stable weather window and keep a day in reserve. In shoulder months watch the forecast in Manang before leaving for the high camp. A day lost in Manang is a good trade for a safe crossing.
October and November
The best window. Skies clear, trails are dry and temperatures are comfortable, although nights at height are cold. October is busy, and by late November Thorong La can be snowy. See clockwise or anticlockwise for route choice.
