Langtang Lirung season and permits

3 min readUpdated 23 Oct 2026By the Base Camp Hikes trek team

The best seasons for Langtang Lirung are April to May and October to November. The peak is climbed on an expedition permit, with Langtang National Park entry. Costs and rules change, so ask us for a written plan for your dates.

Season

Spring and autumn offer the most stable weather. Winter is very cold and the monsoon brings heavy snow and avalanche risk.

Permits

A peak above the trekking-peak list requires an expedition permit, issued through the Nepal authorities, plus the national park entry fee. The fees depend on the season and can change.

Support

Teams usually include a guide, climbing Sherpas, a cook and porters. Insurance must cover climbing at this altitude and helicopter evacuation.

For trekkers

You do not need an expedition permit to trek in the Langtang valley. A TIMS card and national park permit cover the trek.

Insurance and rescue

Insurance for an expedition must cover climbing at this height and helicopter rescue. Make sure the policy is valid for expedition climbing, not only trekking.

For trekkers

You need a TIMS card and a national park permit for the Langtang valley. Carry them and your passport at all times on the trek.
