The best time for Limi Valley is from late May to October. The area lies in the rain shadow of the Himalaya, so the monsoon is lighter than in most of Nepal, and the high passes are usually clear of snow. September and early October are popular for clear skies.
Late May and June
Snow has mostly melted from the passes by late May. Days are warm, barley is growing in the fields, and the trail is quiet.
July and August
These are monsoon months, but Limi gets less rain than lower Nepal. Flights to Simikot and the road in the lower valleys can still be disrupted, so plan spare days.
September and October
Skies clear up, the barley turns gold and the passes are generally stable. This is the most reliable time for views and for crossing the passes.
Winter and early spring
Passes are usually blocked by snow and villages can be cold and quiet. We do not run trips in this season.
Temperatures
Days can be warm in summer and cool at altitude, with cold nights above 4,000 m. In autumn nights get colder fast.
Crowds and festivals
Few trekkers visit Limi in any season. If you want to see local life, ask us whether a festival or harvest is on while you are there.
