How many days does the Manaslu Circuit take?
Plan on about twelve to sixteen days including drive days, and more with a Tsum Valley extension.
Do I need a guide?
Yes. A licensed guide and an agency-issued TIMS card are required on this route.
What is the restricted-area permit fee?
The figures supplied to us are USD 100 per person for the first week plus USD 15 per day beyond, from September to November, and USD 75 plus USD 10 per day from December to August. Confirm before booking.
What is the Manaslu Conservation Area fee?
NPR 3,000 for foreign nationals and NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals, per entry.
When is the best time?
Autumn and spring are the main seasons. October is clearest and busiest.
Can I add the Tsum Valley?
Yes, usually about a week more. A separate seasonal fee applies.
Is it suitable for beginners?
It is demanding. Some previous multi-day trekking experience helps.
Where does it start and end?
It usually starts near Soti Khola and ends near Dharapani, with long road journeys at each end.
Can I trek alone?
Not without a registered agency and a guide. A single traveller can go with one guide, at a higher cost per person.
Is there mobile coverage?
It is patchy and may be absent for days. Tell family in advance.
Is the Manaslu Circuit crowded?
Compared with Everest or Annapurna, it is quiet, though more trekkers are choosing it each year. In peak weeks, you may share lodges with several groups. Booking early and travelling in a small group help you secure rooms. Outside peak weeks, the trail can feel very peaceful.
What kind of fitness do I need?
You should be comfortable walking six or seven hours a day for many days in a row, with ups and downs. Start a training plan at least two months before departure, including hill walks with a loaded pack. Tell your operator about any health issues and consider a medical check.
Can I do Manaslu in a shorter time?
It is possible to shorten the trek by using vehicles at the start and end, but the high section cannot be rushed safely. Reducing days usually means fewer acclimatisation days and higher risk. Discuss the options with your operator and be realistic about your time.
What happens if I get sick on the trek?
Tell your guide immediately. Depending on the problem, you may rest a day, descend or be evacuated. Remote location means help takes time, so carry insurance and a personal first-aid kit. Good communication with your guide and operator is vital.
Can I leave valuables in Kathmandu?
Most hotels will store luggage while you are away. Confirm arrangements in advance, keep a list of what you leave, and carry only what you need on the trek. Avoid leaving expensive items if possible.
Is Manaslu harder than Annapurna Circuit?
It is generally more remote and demands more self-reliance, but the altitude is similar. Both are demanding and suit fit, experienced trekkers.
How many days of rest should I include?
At least one full rest day at Samagaon, and ideally a second at a higher point. Spare days for weather are also important.
Can I do Manaslu without a porter?
Yes, but carrying a full pack on long days is tiring. Many trekkers hire a porter to focus on walking and acclimatisation.
What is the best itinerary length?
Fourteen to eighteen days is typical, depending on whether you add Tsum Valley or extra rest days.
Are there hot showers?
Showers are available at some lodges at lower altitudes, usually heated by solar or gas. Higher up, expect cold water or none at all.
