Mera Peak climb cost: what affects the price

3 min read

A Mera Peak programme is a long, supported trip, and the cost reflects flights, staff, permits and logistics. We do not publish a single price here because your choices matter.

Main cost items

  • Permits and fees: climbing permit, park entry and TIMS. The park and TIMS figures supplied to us are shown on our permit page, and we confirm the climbing permit fee for your dates.
  • Flights: Kathmandu to Lukla and back.
  • Guides and staff: climbing guide, assistant, porters and kitchen team.
  • Accommodation and meals: lodges on the approach, tents at the camps.
  • Equipment: group climbing gear and tents are usually included, while personal gear is not.

What changes the price

The number of days, group size, ratio of guides to climbers, the use of a high camp, private or group departure, and the season all influence the final figure. Extra days add cost, but they raise safety and success chances.

Personal costs

Rental or purchase of boots and clothing, insurance, visa fees and tips are normally extra.

Watch for very low prices

Low offers sometimes skimp on spare days, guides, camp comfort or evacuation arrangements. Compare itineraries and inclusions, not only price.

Questions to ask

  • How many guides per climber?
  • How many spare days are in the plan?
  • Are permits and park fees included?
  • What are the arrangements for rescue?

Send your dates and we will prepare a detailed quote.

Understanding what you pay for

A fair price covers permits, guides, porters, accommodation, meals, equipment such as tents and ropes, transport and safety supplies. Cheaper offers may cut some of these. Ask what staff are insured, how many acclimatisation days are included and what happens in an emergency.

Extra spending to plan for

Personal gear, flights, visas, tips, drinks, snacks, charging, showers and Kathmandu hotel nights add up. Carry some emergency cash in rupees as card payments are not available on the trail.

Compare carefully

Ask each operator for a written itinerary and a list of inclusions and exclusions. Compare these line by line rather than relying only on the total price.

Logistics that raise the price

Mera Peak is remote, so supplies and equipment are carried by porters or yaks. Camp equipment, fuel and food all add cost. Flights to Lukla or alternative airstrips are a major component. These logistics explain why Mera costs more than a simple trek.

Cheap offers and hidden costs

Very cheap packages may exclude permits, charge extra for tents or use low-quality equipment. Others may recruit staff at the last minute. Ask for details on each item, and check reviews and references.

Budgeting wisely

  • Set aside funds for gear rental or purchase.
  • Plan for tips and extra nights.
  • Have a contingency for delays.
  • Keep emergency cash in rupees.
