Pisang Peak: quick climbing answers

1 min read

How high is Pisang Peak?

About 6,091 m. Some sources give 6,092 m, and heights vary slightly between maps and operators.

Can a beginner climb Pisang Peak?

Beginners with good fitness and a good guide can, but it is a serious climb. Some altitude experience is recommended, and skills are taught at camp.

How long is summit day?

About 9 to 12 hours including the descent, depending on the camp used, conditions and group pace.

Do I need crampons and an ice axe?

Yes. Most operators provide or rent them. Ask which items are included and try them before you leave Kathmandu.

Is it harder than Yala Peak?

Yes. Pisang is higher and steeper in its upper sections and demands more technical care.

What if the weather is bad on summit day?

Your guide will wait a day or turn back. A spare day in the plan improves your chances.

Can I cross Thorong La after the climb?

Yes. Many itineraries do, via Manang and Thorong Phedi to Muktinath. Allow spare days for pass weather.
