The Tamang Heritage Trail is a culture trek in the Rasuwa district, north of Kathmandu, near Langtang. It passes Tamang villages such as Gatlang, Thuman and Briddim, with hot springs and mountain views. Most trips take five to eight days and reach about 3,000 m.
Where it is
The trail lies in the Langtang National Park region, reached by road to Syabrubesi, about seven to eight hours from Kathmandu. It loops through villages above the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli valleys.
Who the Tamang are
The Tamang are one of Nepal's largest hill communities, with a Tibetan Buddhist tradition. You will see stone houses, prayer walls, monasteries and local customs that go back generations.
What you see
Terraced farmland, pine forest, small monasteries and views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges. The altitude stays moderate, so it suits many trekkers.
Homestays
Many villages offer homestays or small lodges, which means you eat and sleep with local families. It is a good way to see everyday life.
Who it suits
Families, culture lovers and people who want a gentle trek without extreme altitude. It also makes a good addition before or after Langtang.
What to pack
Bring layers, a rain jacket, sturdy shoes, a light sleeping bag liner for homestays and cash for small purchases. Keep a small gift such as sweets for children if you like, but ask your guide before giving anything.
Questions people ask first
