A common Tamang Heritage Trail plan takes seven days from Kathmandu. You drive to Syabrubesi, walk through Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman and Briddim, and return by road. Walking days are four to six hours, with a high point of about 3,200 m near Nagthali.
Day 1
Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, at about 1,550 m. It takes about seven to eight hours and the road is rough in places.
Day 2: Gatlang
Walk to Gatlang, a large Tamang village at about 2,300 m, with a monastery and traditional houses. It is a long climb through forest.
Day 3: Tatopani
Cross a ridge to Tatopani, where hot springs are a welcome treat after the climb.
Day 4: Thuman
Climb to Thuman, with views of Langtang peaks. The village is quiet and traditional.
Day 5: Briddim
Walk across the hills to Briddim, a village in the Langtang valley with a small monastery.
Day 6 and 7
Return to Syabrubesi and drive to Kathmandu. A spare day helps if the road is slow.
