How many days should I allow for the Three Passes trek?
Plan 20 to 21 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. Eighteen days is the practical minimum for experienced trekkers, and 22 days gives a useful weather buffer. A day before and after for Kathmandu is wise.
Which month is best for the Three Passes?
October and November are the most reliable, with April and May as the main spring alternative. Winter and the monsoon are not recommended.
Do I need a guide for the Three Passes?
Yes. Current rules and the safety demands of the passes mean you should travel with a licensed, experienced guide. Do not cross Cho La or Kongma La alone.
Can I do the Three Passes without Everest Base Camp?
Yes, but most itineraries include it because the route passes Lobuche and Gorak Shep. You can also skip it and cross Kongma La from Chhukung if time or health is limited.
Should I book early?
For October and April, book at least three to four months ahead to secure flights and lodge space and to leave time for training.
Can I trek the Three Passes as a first trek?
It is not recommended. Choose a shorter high trek first, so you know how you handle altitude and cold.
Is a porter included?
Most packages include a porter for every one or two trekkers. Confirm this in your quote and ask about the weight limit.
