Yala Peak: quick climbing answers

1 min read

How high is Yala Peak?

About 5,500 m, with some sources giving figures around 5,520 m. Heights vary slightly between maps and operators.

Can a beginner climb Yala Peak?

Yes, with a good guide, time to acclimatise and basic fitness. No previous climbing experience is needed, and skills are taught at camp.

How long is summit day?

About 8 to 11 hours including the descent, depending on the camp used, conditions and group pace.

Do I need crampons and an ice axe?

Normally yes. Most operators provide or rent them. Ask which items are included and try them before you leave Kathmandu.

Is it safer to climb with a group or alone?

Climb with a licensed operator and an experienced guide. A group shares costs and supports each other, but the quality of the guide matters most.

What if the weather is bad on summit day?

Your guide will wait a day or turn back. A spare day in the plan improves your chances.

Is it suitable for children?

It is not recommended for young children. Teenagers and adults with good fitness and a doctor's approval can consider it.
