How do I reach the start of the trek?
You drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which takes most of a day on a mountain road. Your operator arranges a private vehicle or a seat on a shared jeep.
Is there a flight?
No. Yala is reached by road, which avoids the weather delays common in Lukla flights, but road delays from landslides are still possible.
Where can I leave extra luggage?
Most Kathmandu hotels store extra luggage while you are on the climb. Ask when you book.
How much cash should I bring?
Bring enough Nepali rupees for drinks, snacks, showers, charging and tips, because ATMs are not available on the trail.
Can I rent gear in Kathmandu?
Yes. Technical gear and warm clothing can be rented. Check quality and fit and test items before you leave the city.
Are there teahouses on the way?
Yes, lodges are available up to Kyanjin Gompa. Above that you sleep in tents at camps.
Can I combine Yala with a Langtang trek?
Yes. Many climbs include the Langtang valley route, and you can add Gosaikunda or the Tamang Heritage Trail for a longer trip.
