Indian citizens can trek the Manaslu Circuit, but the restricted status means more paperwork than on open routes. A registered agency arranges the permits, so your main task is to provide the right documents on time.
Permits and fees
- Restricted area permit: The same weekly fees as other nationalities, based on the schedule supplied to us. September to November is USD 100 for the first week and USD 15 per extra day; December to August is USD 75 and USD 10 per extra day.
- Manaslu Conservation Area entry: NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals, per entry.
- TIMS: NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals, issued through an agency.
Please confirm all rates before booking, because they may change.
Documents
Carry the passport or voter ID you used to enter Nepal, plus photocopies and passport-size photos. Send a clear scan to your agency well ahead of time for the permit application.
Money
Carry Nepali rupees for the trek, in small notes. Machines are not available along the route. Indian currency may not be accepted in remote villages.
Food
Vegetarian meals, especially dal bhat, are available everywhere. Mention dietary preferences to your guide.
Health
The trek is remote and high, so check with a doctor, take insurance that covers altitude and evacuation, and allow time for acclimatisation.
Send your group details and we will prepare the paperwork.
Preparing your paperwork
Send your operator clear copies of your passport or accepted identity documents, passport photos and travel dates well before departure. Ask about the exact permit rates that apply to you and how many days they cover. Keep digital and paper copies of everything.
Money and communication
Carry sufficient Nepali rupees in small notes because machines and cards are unavailable on the route. Let your family know that mobile coverage is poor and that you may be out of contact for days. Share your operator's office number with them.
Food and comfort
Vegetarian dishes are widely available, but menus are limited. Carry snacks such as roasted gram, nuts, dry fruit and energy bars. Be ready for cold rooms and basic washing facilities. Warm clothing is more important than a long list of extras.
Quick checklist
- Insurance that covers trekking up to the pass altitude and helicopter evacuation.
- Photocopies of documents stored in separate bags.
- A small first-aid kit and personal medicines.
Extra care for restricted areas
Indian travellers should carry the required identity documents, permit copies and a few passport-size photographs. Check the current permit fee and category with your operator. Keep documents in a waterproof pouch and keep digital copies.
Cash and communication
There are no ATMs on the route, so carry enough Nepali rupees in small notes. Mobile coverage is limited. Tell family not to expect daily calls, and agree on a check-in plan with your guide.
