A typical Pokalde Peak plan takes about 17 to 18 days from Kathmandu. You follow the Everest Base Camp trail to Dingboche, acclimatise carefully, move to a base camp, climb the peak with a guide and return the same way. A spare day for weather is wise.
Approach
Fly to Lukla and walk to Namche Bazaar, then spend a rest day in Namche. Continue through Tengboche to Dingboche, around 4,400 m. This part matches the Everest Base Camp trek.
Acclimatise before climbing
Spend at least one rest day at Dingboche, with a short walk higher, such as the ridge above the village. Do not rush this step, because summit days go wrong when acclimatisation is poor.
Base camp
From Dingboche move to a base camp around 5,000 m on the side of the peak. Use the afternoon to rest, check ropes and gear, and go through the plan for summit day.
Summit day
Start before dawn. The route climbs rock and snow, with crampons and ropes where needed, and takes several hours to the top. After photos, you descend carefully, and reach base camp or Dingboche by evening.
The return
After the climb, walk down the valley and fly from Lukla. Spare days at the end can help with weather delays.
Why spare days matter
Add one or two days for weather and rest. Summit days need good conditions, and a spare day gives you a second chance without rushing.
Training on the way
Use acclimatisation walks to practise: wear your climbing boots, check crampon fit and learn the rope signals. A good guide will run a short skills session before the climb.
