Ponker Lake can be done as a short trek on its own, or as a side trip from Bimthang at the end of the Manaslu Circuit. Trekkers who cross Larkya La descend to Bimthang, and the lake is a long day trip from there if they have a spare day and the energy.
As a short trek
The route from Dharapani or Tilije to Bimthang and the lake is short and easy to reach from Besisahar. It suits people with five or six days. See the itinerary and altitudes.
At the end of the Manaslu Circuit
On the circuit you cross Larkya La at about 5,106 m and descend to Bimthang at about 3,590 m. See the Larkya La crossing. A rest day at Bimthang followed by the lake is possible if time and weather allow, but many trekkers choose to head straight down.
Compared with Larkya La
Larkya La is a high pass of about 5,106 m that needs a very early start. The lake is a lower, simpler goal, but it is still above 4,000 m.
Getting there
The trailhead region is reached from Besisahar. See getting to the Manaslu trailhead and back.
Other short options
If you want a lake trek with more infrastructure, see the Gosainkunda Lake trek guides or the Tilicho Lake guides.
