Tent Peak, also known as Tharpu Chuli, is 5,663 m (18,579 ft) high. It stands at the head of the Annapurna Sanctuary in the Annapurna range of Nepal and is usually climbed as a first snow peak by trekkers who have already been to Annapurna Base Camp.
Height and place
Tharpu Chuli is 5,663 m high. It lies in the Annapurna range, at the head of the Annapurna Sanctuary, the high glacier basin that trekkers enter on the way to Annapurna Base Camp.
Two names
The peak is known as Tharpu Chuli in Nepali and as Tent Peak in English. The English nickname is usually explained by its tent-like outline when seen from the Sanctuary.
Is it a trekking peak?
Tent Peak is sold by operators as a trekking-style peak, but it still needs snow and ice skills, a guide and a climbing permit. See difficulty, camps and season.
Neighbours
Tent Peak is lower than its neighbour Singu Chuli (Fluted Peak), which is a harder climb. See the Singu Chuli guide and the Hiunchuli guide for the other Annapurna peaks of this kind.
How to see it
Trekkers meet the peak on the walk to Annapurna Base Camp. See the altitude guide for Machapuchare and Annapurna Base Camp and the Machapuchare guides for the Fishtail peak that dominates the same valley.
