How do I get to the trailhead?
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, a short flight that is often early in the morning. At busy times flights may operate from a different airport, so ask your operator about current arrangements.
What is the luggage limit on the Lukla flight?
The limit is small, generally around 15 kg including hand luggage, so pack light and leave extra items in Kathmandu. Confirm the current limit with your operator.
Where can I store extra luggage?
Most hotels in Kathmandu store luggage for free or for a small fee. Ask before you leave.
How much cash should I carry?
Bring enough Nepali rupees for drinks, snacks, showers, charging, wifi and tips, since ATMs above Namche are unreliable. Your guide can advise on a daily amount.
What if my flight is delayed?
Flights are weather-dependent, so a spare day at the start and end is wise. Do not schedule an international flight on the day you return.
Can I leave the trek early?
Yes, but options depend on where you are. Helicopter flights from Gokyo, Lobuche or Gorak Shep are possible in good weather and cost extra. Discuss this with your operator before booking.
Are tips expected?
Tips for guides and porters are customary. Agree an approach with your operator and carry cash for it.
