The route
The trail continues through rhododendron and oak forest, passing Pothana and Deurali. The forest is thick, and the views are mostly hidden until you reach Forest Camp.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
The forest is wet in the rains. Carry rain gear and be careful on roots.
Common questions
- Is it hard? Moderate. The climb is steady.
- Are there views? Not many until above the trees.
Reverse direction
Walking Forest Camp to Australian Camp is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
