The route
The ridge trail climbs through open grass and rock, with the peaks of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare in view. High Camp has a few lodges in a wild setting.
Altitude and health
Part of this section is at or above 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is possible. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and tell your guide about headaches, nausea or poor sleep. Descend if symptoms worsen. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Weather can change quickly on the ridge. Carry warm layers and rain gear.
Common questions
- Is High Camp the last stop? It is the last lodge stop before Mardi Himal Base Camp.
- Is the altitude a problem? At 3,580 m, headaches are possible.
Reverse direction
Walking High Camp to Badal Danda is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
