A steep climb along the high ridge to the upper viewpoint at about 4,200 m and on to the base camp area. The views include Machapuchare, Annapurna South and Mardi Himal.
Altitude and health
Part of this section is at or above 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is possible. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and tell your guide about headaches, nausea or poor sleep. Descend if symptoms worsen. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Start early for clear views. Return to High Camp the same day. See the Mardi Himal guides.
Common questions
- Is this a day hike? Yes, from High Camp, with a return to sleep.
- Is the ridge exposed? Parts are narrow, so take care.
Reverse direction
Walking Mardi Himal Base Camp to High Camp is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
