The route
The route runs through Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, Himalaya, Deurali and Machhapuchhre Base Camp before reaching Annapurna Base Camp. It passes from farmland and forest to alpine terrain in a few days.
Altitude and health
Part of this section is at or above 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is possible. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and tell your guide about headaches, nausea or poor sleep. Descend if symptoms worsen. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Plan at least 3 days up if you can. Sleeping at Dovan or Himalaya, then Machhapuchhre Base Camp, spreads the climb. See the Annapurna Base Camp guides for full itineraries.
Common questions
