The route
A long, winding drive to the Langtang trailhead via Trishuli and Dhunche. The last section is rough and slow, with views of terraced hillsides and rivers.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Start early. Public buses run daily, but a private jeep is more comfortable.
Common questions
- Is the road rough? Yes. It is long and bumpy.
- Can I go by bus? Yes, local buses run to Syabrubesi.
Reverse direction
Walking Syabrubesi to Kathmandu is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
