The route
The trail drops through forest of rhododendron and pine, crosses the Dudh Khola and passes Gho and Tilije before joining the Annapurna Circuit at Dharapani.
Altitude and health
Part of this section is at or above 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is possible. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and tell your guide about headaches, nausea or poor sleep. Descend if symptoms worsen. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
The long descent is a final test. Pace yourself and keep an eye on your footing.
Common questions
- Where does the trail end? At Dharapani, where a road leads on toward Besisahar.
- Can I continue to Annapurna? Yes, some trekkers continue on the Annapurna Circuit from here.
Reverse direction
Walking Dharapani to Bimthang is the same trail in reverse and means a net climb, so allow more time than the walk down and set a slower pace.
