The route
A drive along the Baglung highway to Nayapul, the trailhead for the Annapurna Sanctuary and Ghorepani treks. Taxis, jeeps and buses run the route.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Start early to reach the trailhead before the heat, and keep your TIMS and ACAP permits within reach.
Common questions
- Is Nayapul the start of the trek? Yes, for several routes. Some trekkers take a jeep further to Kimche or Ghandruk.
- Can I go by public bus? Yes, buses run along the highway, though jeeps and taxis are quicker.
Reverse direction
Walking Nayapul to Pokhara is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
