The route
The trail descends to the Kimrong Khola, crosses it and then climbs through forest and stone steps to Komrong Danda and on to Chhomrong. The ups and downs make the day longer than the net gain suggests.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Chhomrong is a good place to rest and sort supplies, because the trail beyond has no road and fewer facilities.
Common questions
- Is this day harder than it looks? Yes. There are two big ups and downs on the way.
- Is there a road to Chhomrong? A rough road runs part of the way, but the trail is the usual route.
Reverse direction
Walking Chhomrong to Ghandruk is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
