The route
The route follows the Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest part of the valley, through Kalopani, Lete and Ghasa to Tatopani. The vegetation changes from alpine to subtropical.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Tatopani means hot water, and the hot springs are a welcome reward. Many trekkers stay a night.
Common questions
- Are there hot springs? Yes, at Tatopani.
- Can I drive? Yes, jeeps and buses run along the valley road.
Reverse direction
Walking Tatopani to Tukuche is the same trail in reverse and means a net climb, so allow more time than the walk down and set a slower pace.
